A lot of people want to know if there’s a way to know you’re hearing from God. I understand! I’ve wondered the same thing. In some circles there is this idea that if you submit everything properly to the Lord you will have a road map given to you for what you’re to do–every step will be directed in a very intentional, specific, and recognizable way. Sometimes it’s fear that motivates this desire. Sometimes it’s a genuine desire to please the Lord and walk in His will.
It’s a good desire to please the Lord! It’s a good desire to walk in His will. My question is this . . . what makes you think that you aren’t?
God has been very clear about what is against His will. It’s all over Scripture and it hasn’t changed. Treating people unlovingly, failing to take care of the widow and orphan, abandoning those in need, putting anything and anyone but him on the throne of your heart . . . these are all out of the Lord’s will for you. God hasn’t said whether wearing the red tie or the blue one is going to please him–which means it’s probably okay to do either. If you wear the red tie while you honor your father and mother he is probably fine with it. If you wear the blue tie while you behave hatefully to someone, you’ve made the wrong choice.
What if the simple truth about all of this is that God created you to be you? You can only be who you are; you can only do what you will do. Your life experience has brought you to this point, and you are inclined to make certain choices. As you grow and change, so will the choices you make, but they are consistent with who you are. God knows who you are. If God has put you in a situation, today, and He knows what you are going to do, then maybe that is the thing to do! Maybe that is what the situation needs.
Be you–know what your gifts are, your spiritual strengths, your personality, your interests–know everything about yourself you can learn! And when you face a situation, be you and respond consistently with who He created you to be. If there is an issue of something being morally correct vs. morally incorrect, choose righteousness! And if you get in the habit of doing this, God is perfectly capable of stopping you and having you do something specific that is called for in a situation. And then you can know that you’re hearing from the Lord because it won’t be something you’d tell yourself to do.
Ever since I realized that God accepts, loves, and uses me right where I am, it’s been amazing the things God has been able to accomplish through me. He puts me where He needs me, and I respond in a way that is a blessing to me because it is consistent with who He made me to be. When I sense strongly that a different response is needed from me, it’s clear to me because it goes against my natural inclination, and I can heed it as the prompting of the Lord and act with confidence. It’s such a peaceful and enriching way to live.

This is really upntfiilg *sigh* I dont like that I have this problem and I try to keep things in perspective because I know the world doesn’t revovle around myself but at times I just get the feeling that everyone is looking at me and judging me for my every mistake, it makes it hard to even interact with people without being even in the least anxious. This is upntfiilg though and I will def turn my problems to the Lord because at this point he is the only one that can help me.
