It’s a touchy topic and I know there are lots of opinions. I hope mine encourages some of you.
Is Circumcision the “Christian” Thing to Do?
I have dealt with this issue personally as people question our position on it. One thing I want to add is that I believe when Messiah returns He will be perfectly capable of causing anyone who needs to be physically circumcised to be so and He will sort it out. I absolutely believe that God is concerned about our physical bodies and our acts of obedience. I also believe that He is more concerned with our spiritual state of obedience and our efforts to live faithfully to what we understand.
I think the main key is to wrestle with the text. When we do that, we can sort out with the Lord what He is trying to teach us. We can live according to our convictions. We can be faithful to what we understand. It will always be limited. We will often get something wrong. But we can answer to the Lord for our actions and He will know we were doing our best to be obedient.
We did choose to circumcise.. because I believe many of the OT laws were dual in spiritual and health related… at first WHO was saying it wasn’t necessary to circumcise.. but now they have reversed that decision are encouraging it as it lessens STDs.. and some other health problems. I really did not think circumcision had anything to do with my son being accepted of God, but I do believe there is also a health reasons for it.
I agree with you that there is stuff that is beyond our comprehension and I do believe that we are called to obedience. I don’t believe that circumcision is something that ever had to do with health. It was always about being marked as one of Abraham’s descendants. I’m not sure if you did RIC either, but that’s such a different thing as well.
